If you live in a mature property that was built in a period where things were built to last and your windows are still in place then they’ve done a good job, however there is a lot to be said for the energy efficiency benefits of swapping out your old windows and frames for something more modern such as UPVC;
Character
Granted UPVC units and features such as upvc patio doors from West Wickham don’t usually offer the same in terms of character when compared to the older wooden frame and pane systems, however, these days, character comes at a very high cost! Consider your utility bills, gas and electricity costs have recently taken another steep hike in the wrong direction for most people and, unfortunately, the nature of the beast means that prices will increase year on year.
There isn’t much you can do about the cost of your fuel however, and a big however at that, you can do something to improve the thermal efficiency of your property so that it keeps the cold out more effectively and keeps that precious heat in doors where it belongs.
Practicality
Unless you are quite literally made of money, or don’t care then the smartest thing a person could do right now is to look into getting better thermal protection for their home. Windows and doors are one area to look into, although, replacing or upgrading your insulation would be the icing on top of the cake. It’s easy to put things off for another day, there will however, come a time that those energy bills will start to touch a nerve or two!! If nothing else, at least you now have a solution.
